The nucleon mass in N f = 2 lattice QCD : finite size effects from chiral perturbation theory
نویسنده
چکیده
In the framework of relativistic SU(2)f baryon chiral perturbation theory we calculate the volume dependence of the nucleon mass up to and including O(p4). Since the parameters in the resulting finite size formulae are fixed from the pion mass dependence of the large volume nucleon masses and from phenomenology, we obtain a parameter-free prediction of the finite size effects. We present mass data from the recent Nf = 2 simulations of the UKQCD and QCDSF collaborations and compare these data as well as published mass values from the dynamical simulations of the CP-PACS and JLQCD collaborations with the theoretical expectations. Remarkable agreement between the lattice data and the predictions of chiral perturbation theory in a finite volume is found.

متن کاملNew lessons from the nucleon mass, lattice QCD and heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory
I will review heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory for the nucleon delta degrees of freedom and then examine the recent dynamical lattice calculations of the nucleon mass from the BMW, ETM, JLQCD, LHP, MILC, NPLQCD, PACS-CS, QCDSF/UKQCD and RBC/UKQCD Collaborations. Performing the chiral extrapolations of these results, one finds remarkable agreement with the physical nucleon mass, from each...

The issue of chiral extrapolation has been highlighted as an important problem facing modern lattice QCD simulations [1,2], if one is to make any comparison with experiment. Extrapolations in quark mass are nontrivial because of nonanalytic contributions which arise as a consequence of dynamically broken chiral symmetry in the QCD vacuum [3]. At typical lattice quark masses there is little evid...
متن کاملTopics in Effective Field Theory for Lattice QCD
Quantitatively understanding hadronic physics from first principles requires numerical solutions to QCD, known as lattice QCD, which are necessarily performed with a finite spatial extent at finite lattice spacing. Current simulations employ quark masses that are heavier than those in nature, as lighter quarks are computationally too costly, the physical systems simulated are not significantly ...
متن کاملChiral extrapolation of nucleon properties from lattice QCD
Lattice QCD on one side and chiral effective field theory on the other are progressively developing as important tools to deal with the non-perturbative nature of low-energy QCD and the structure of hadrons. At present, however, there is a gap between the relatively large quark masses accessible in full-QCD lattice simulations of nucleon properties and the small quark masses relevant for compar...
